Like there are different types of Witches, there are different types of Magick, but, unlike the different types of Witches where you limit yourself to a kind of Witch, you do not have to limit yourself to only a single type of Magick. You can learn and master as many kinds of Magick as you want. This flexibility is because many magick types borrow traits of other magick or blend so well it can be hard to differentiate them. Of course, you can choose to dedicate yourself and master only one type of magick if you so desire, but you would be preventing yourself from expanding and opening yourself to new and magickal experiences. There are many types of magick, and a full list of them can take up a whole book. So, instead, we will be going over some of the more common types of magick you may see your fellow Witches practicing. You can use the list to learn more about the different types of magick and help you figure out what kind of magick you want to start learning and practicing.

Ceremonial Magick

Ceremonial Magick, or “High Magick,” is an ancient form of magick that uses a formal set of rules, rituals, symbols, and tools to create successful spells. This form of magick takes a lot of careful time and patience to master as it is the guiding point towards achieving spiritual growth and higher purposes in life. You can categorize many of the ancient magick types under this form of magick. While it may be tempting to practice ceremonial magick, you are not able to unless you are initiated by an already practicing member. Since this magick type needs a lot of prior knowledge, planning, and philosophical thinking, not everyone is worth being able to learn this magick type.

Natural Magick

Natural Magick is the most common form of magick type practiced today. Natural magick uses all four elements of Wicca-Earth, Air, Water, and Fire-in spells and rituals. Anything that has a connection to the Four Elements can fall under the Natural Magick category. Some Witches call Natural Magick “Low Magick” since it does not require a lot of preparation or specific tools to perform. But do not let the term “Low Magick” prevent you from practicing this magick as it is a great starting point for new Witches and can still be used to perform powerful spells. You can practice Natural Magick anywhere, anytime, with little to no limitations. Examples of Natural Magick include potions, talismans, essential oils, and much more.

Divination Magick

If you have used Tarot Cards or tried to see through a Crystal Ball, then you have taken a hand at practicing Divination Magick. Divination Magick includes all the types of spells, rituals, and tools that are meant to help you peer into the future and get some answers to what can and will be. Of course, even though Divination Magick is supposed to let you see into the future, what you see is not what you will always get. Divination Magick will only show you the outcome of your current situation depending on the course of action you plan on taking. If you do not like the result, you can change your way of handling the situation and perform your preferred Divination ritual to see if you get a better outcome.

Summoning Magick

Summoning Magick does not rely just on your magickal abilities, but also on the magickal abilities of the entities around you. The magickal objects include Gods, Goddesses, Faeries, Demons, Angels, Ancestors, and Spirit Animals. You do not act on your own when performing a spell or ritual, but need the assistance of the supernatural entity that you have chosen to ask for help. You do not need to follow the religion associated with the body you want to summon, but you do need to believe in them and how they can help you. Summoning Magick does require knowledge, planning, and dedication to have successful spells. As well, the entity that you wish to help you needs to accept you, not just that you choose them. Leave the entity you chose offerings, pray to them, and show them why you are worth being helped.

Planetary Magick

Planetary magick is one of the harder forms of magick to learn and master. This type of magick relies on drawing energy from bodies in the universe like the Sun, Moon, and other planets in the solar system. To perform successfully Planetary magick spells, you need to have a strong knowledge of astrology and astronomy. You will need to carefully plan and monitor the movements of the universal entities to make sure that they correlate with the goal you have in mind. If plotting charts and doing heavy research is not what you enjoy doing, then Planetary magick is not the type of magick for you to practice. But if you have the patience to learn the movements of the entities in the universe, then you should have highly successful spells and rituals.

Now you should have a better idea of just how many types of magick we Witches have the capability to learn and master. Even though it is possible to dabble in all the different kinds of magick, you will not be able to master every one of them. Instead, you can find the magick types that are similar to each other both to learn more than one magick style and to make it easier for you to discover them due to similarities. Once you have the types of magick that you want to master, research and practice is the only way to improve your skill with them. If you feel like you are not going anywhere with the magick styles you have chosen, try a different type; there is no harm in realizing a particular magick is not for you and trying out a different one instead. Every Witch has their own talent; you only need to find your own through trial and error.
